Atlanta Braves Gameday: Community Heroes Week
As a child, Tanner's father was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Stage IV. As a result of seeing what his father went through during his battle. Tanner wanted to bring joy to kids who were undergoing long-term hospital treatments and stays.
At the age of 12, Tanner created Tanner's Totes, a non-profit organization that fills tote bags with various toys and items to provide much-needed distractions and joy to the kids. The organization made its first delivery at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and now delivers to more than 25 hospitals. Tanner is now 27-years-old and has delivered hundreds of totes over the last 15 years and continues to do so.
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite was one of the first hospitals Tanner delivered to 15 years ago. With the help of Tanner's mother, Kathy, the Braves surprised Tanner on Tuesday, June 20 when he was making a routine visit to the "Zone" at Scottish Rite to deliver totes to youth. After surprising Tanner, Braves players Matt Kemp, Ender Inciarte, Jaime Garcia, R.A. Dickey, Jason Hursh and John Camargo, along with FOX Sports South announcers Paul Byrd and joe Simpson helped him deliver totes to the youth in the Zone.
